1. WHAT IS OKWANJULA IN UGANDA?
Okwanjula or Kwanjula is a popular mariage traditional ceremony in Uganda also known as the introduction ceremony done to introduce the fiance to the family of the woman. It is popularly done by the Bantu tribes of Uganda including tribes like Baganda, Banyankore, Basoga Batooro. Kwanjula is a ceremony done to prove that the fiance is serious with the relationship and to propose to their lady for marriage.

2. WHERE DO THEY DO OKWANJULA ?
Okwanjula is done at the fiancee’s home where the ceremony is prepared by the fiance’s ( the woman ) family at their home for the family of the fiance ( the man ) to visit and be introduced in the woman’s family and to understand the underlying conditions of the marriage.
3. WHEN DO THEY DO OKWANJULA ?
The kwanjula is done during the time just before marriage . The ceremony is organised at the time when the man has proposed to the woman for marriage . Kwangula has long been known in Buganda and also in Ankole as an engagement ceremony .Some time after the ceremony the couple is allowed to stay together and it is approved by both families because the permission for marriage is given by the fiancee’s family before any course of marriage.

4. HOW DO THEY DO OKWANJULA IN BUGANDA?
The Okwanjula ceremony is mainly done by the aunt ( Senga ) of the fiancee ( the woman ) who has to find the fiance ( the man ) among the many visiting family visitors and take him to the parents of the woman to introduce them . The Senga ( the woman’s aunt as they refer to her Senga ) is first briefed of the right man chosen by the woman .
5. WHAT GIFTS DO THEY BRING ON KWANJULA IN BUGANDA ?

Gifts commonly brought to the Okwanjula include a cow or multiple cows depending on the agreement , local wine( Omwenge omuganda ) , a hen to the woman’s brother ( omuko ) this is called Enkoko yo muko several gifts to other family including the agreed bride price . These may include cars ,chairs sugar, soda clothing like gomesi and other multiple gifts
6. HOW IS OKWANJULA DIFFERENT FROM OKUKYALA ?
Okwanjula is done for proposal of marriage while Okukyala is done for the first visit of the fiance ( the man ) to the woman’s home to introduce the man and agree on the bride price ,
