What is matoke ?
Matoke is an East African food, also known in English as bananas . Matooke is the most popular food in Uganda and is widely regarded to as the national food by the country’s population .

It is the commonest mostly in the Central region also known as Buganda with the regional Kingdom Buganda , Western region and Southern region .
How to make matoke in Uganda?
Matoke in Uganda has several recipes but there are 3 commonest ones locally known as Katogo, Matoke Manyige and Matoke Crisps.
Matoke manyige is mashed matoke or mashed bananas . This is cooked under banana leaves and mashed to make a paste which is eaten with sauce such as beef stew or chicken stew. This is commonest in the central region.

Matoke Katogo is peeled bananas cooked with meat ,beans together or cooked with groundnut paste . This is commonest in Western and South Western Uganda
Matoke Crisps are sliced fried bananas, they are also known as banana crisps . This is common among the high class and is mostly found among the high class and medium rich .
