Sudhir Ruperalia and NEMA at loggerheads

 

 

Ugandan Business Mogul Sudhir Ruperelia are in long on going conversations from December 15, 2021 which is going throughout December to Disscus over Speke Hotel Company discussing how to Sustainably undertake the Kitubulu project without compromising integrity of Lake Victoria.

In a statement released by the National Environment Managementauthority NEMA, the authority says that it halted the construction of the project at Kitubulu over the unlawful commencement of the project that required Speke Hotel to first obtain a permit for developments in Lakeshore before starting the construction.

Speke Hotel project was halted because of the rising concerns of Lake shore degradation from soil siltation into Lake Victoria contrary to the conditions that were approved in the Enviroment and Social impact assessment Certificate No NEMA/EIA/11651 issued to the developer in 2020 in Agreement of construction of the Hotel.

NEMA therefore requires that Speke resort of Sudhir Ruperalia should explore design adjustments take care of the impacts of the rising water levels of Lake Victoria so that the developpers´s portion of the land taken up by the lake or used for non-permanent structure uses like a beach.
