 No more Uganda General Elections. NRM MPs seek to replace popular vote with Indirect Vote

 

 

In a press briefing by a group of National Resistance Movement (NRM) members of Parliament informed the public that countrywide consultations on amendment of the constitution for the president to be elected by MPs and not by universal suffrage (the previous popular vote by the citizens of Uganda)

The move which seeks to create senate in Parliament, a move that will scrap popular vote in presidential election. The senators in Parliament will be nominated by their respective political parties into the senate which will be a new amendment in the constitution.

The activist MPs in NRM also in their briefing also pushed for new biometric system of voting as they sought to reduces issues of ballot stuffing which is a main challenge in Uganda.

The MPs explained that Ugandans powers would not be taken away from the citizens but rather entrusted by the voters to vote for the right Member of Parliament who will then have the power and follow voters’ interest to vote for the president of Uganda.

This was explained by the leader and President of the Transformer Cadres Association who was leading the briefing as NRM activists.

This means that the more the members of Parliament of a particular party the higher their chances for voting for their party presidency. The popularity of the party means that it will have more voters for presidency.

He also continue by explaining that money wasted on the presidential election was to be rather used for public interest.

 

The press briefing however raised questions of the group under TCA being a Muhoozi project which the members strongly denied mentioning that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba was a contented military officer serving his country who was in no line for the presidential office.
