“nyege nyege” in luganda means as an irresistible urge to dance while in Kiswahili means an intensive feeling for intimacy or sexual desire.
it is a festive in Kampala, Uganda that promotes outsider music, primarily electronic, by African artists. it was founded in 2013 by expats Arlen Dilsizian and Derek Debru.
Nyege Nyege Festival was started in 2015 out of the need to give underground artists a platform the exciting changes in contemporary music around the continent.
Ever since then, every year in September Jinja is known for hosting this festival . A lot of fun is always in every corner including a lot experiences such as;
live bands,
singers,
instrumentalists,
cultural acts, dance acts
DJ’s. he major acts included Ugandan dancehall star.
However the government has issued guidelines to follow while at the nyege nyege festival 2022.
Officials have listed seven measures “to ensure the festival doesn’t breach Uganda’s laws and cultural/moral norms
- Minors (people below the age of 18) are not allowed to enter the festival
- sex orgies, nudity, are banned
- contraband and narcotic drugs are banned.
- Vulgar language, songs, expressions and gestures are also prohibited.
- Government authorities and security personnel will be allowed “the right of impromptu entry” to monitor activities.
- Any breaches will result in sanctions, prosecution and potential evacuation of the festival site. All that happened because they members of parliament who brought up this discussion said that it is a breeding ground for sexual immorality.
Nyege Nyege 2022 will take place from September 15th till 18th on the banks of the River Nile at Itanda Falls. 300-strong bill include Juliana Huxtable, DJ Marcelle and kuduro pioneer DJ Znobia. Check out the full line-up in the event
