Why are you gay meme
why are you gay? Is a viral internet meme adapted from the 2011 interview between host Simon Kaggwa Njala, guest speaker LGBTQQ human rights activist Pepe Julian Onziema and guest born again Christian religious leader pastor Martin Sempa. The interview was aired on most cable national television NBS TV which is National Broadcasting Services.
Why was such a bizarre question asked?
The interview was held in the Africa country Uganda where LGBTQQ rights where not even in the conversation at the time. Based on the Africa culture being gay was a new thing that Africans were introduced to in the decade 20010 to 2022. Not to say that there weren’t such personalities in Uganda and Africa as a whole but this was a new idea to the masses of the population in Africa.
How did it go viral? meme origins
After several clips of the inter were uploaded on video web platform YouTube they immediately went viral because other European and Western countries were not relating to the interview and how the questions were being asked in the interview which surprised them on how such a topic was being handled.
This led to that famous meme which was cut out of how people felt it was just a hilarious interview on the web. Several viral clips of the interview are still available on YouTube which are cut into different pieces by various internet creators.
NBS TV THE Interview host
NBS Television which held the infamous interview has never given comment or released any document on that interview which caused both positive and negative reactions from the internet with some people arguing its abuse while other reacting that that is what journalism should be, being able to challenge the various topics of life no matter how sensitive it is.
Conclusion.
It still remains a fascination and a hilarious meme to many and also a rather annoying interview to some people of the community but no one can still definitively tell you why such an interview went viral and caused such a reaction on the internet.
