Patrick Idringi, popularly known as Salvado, is a Ugandan comedian, actor, and entertainer whose journey from telecommunications engineering to stand-up comedy has made him one of East Africa’s recognisable comedy figures. Known as the Man from Ombokolo, he built a career around everyday experiences, African culture, and observations about society. His story shows how an unexpected opportunity can change the direction of a professional life.
The Early Life of Patrick Idringi
Salvado was born on February 14, 1985, in Kampala, Uganda. He grew up in a family of eight children, where family conversations and everyday experiences helped shape his sense of humour. His background later became a source of inspiration for the stories he shares on stage.
The Education Behind His Success
Before becoming a full time entertainer, Salvado pursued his education in Uganda. He attended several schools before joining Makerere University, where he studied telecommunications engineering. He graduated in 2008, establishing a professional foundation outside the entertainment industry.
His First Career as an Engineer
After university, Salvado worked as a switch engineer at MTN Uganda. At the time, engineering offered him a stable career, and comedy was not yet his main source of income. However, his interest in making people laugh continued to grow, eventually encouraging him to explore opportunities in stand-up comedy.
The Competition That Changed Everything
In 2009, Salvado entered the Stand Up Uganda comedy competition organised by MultiChoice Africa. He finished as the first runner-up, behind Pablo Kimuli. Although he did not win, the competition introduced him to a wider audience and provided a starting point for his professional comedy career.
Salvado Became the Man from Ombokolo
Salvado’s stage identity developed through his performances and storytelling. His nickname became popular after a joke involving a character named Salvado from the television series Second Chance. He later adopted the phrase The Man from Ombokolo, connecting his stage identity to his roots and giving audiences a memorable name associated with his comedy.
Building a Career Beyond Uganda
As his popularity grew, Salvado performed in different African countries and at international events. His comedy combines observations about relationships, cultural differences, family life, and everyday social experiences. His participation in international comedy competitions, including the 2016 World’s Funniest Person competition, further expanded his profile beyond Uganda.
Laughs and Television

Salvado expanded his work beyond individual stand-up performances through Africa Laughs, a comedy event that brought together Ugandan and international entertainers. He also ventured into television with The Salvado Show, which premiered on Pearl Magic Prime in 2022. These projects gave him additional platforms to connect with audiences and showcase comedy beyond the stage.
The Legacy Salvado Is Building
Salvado’s career reflects the growth of Ugandan comedy from small performance spaces into larger productions and international entertainment platforms. His transition from engineering to comedy demonstrates the possibilities of pursuing a creative profession, while his continued work as a comedian, actor, and event host keeps him connected to different parts of the entertainment industry. His influence also forms part of a wider conversation about the future of Uganda’s comedy scene.
