With the Brand Loyalty and popularity of the IPhone in the United States, Europe and Hong Kong China, one would think Apple with its Mobile phone the iPhones are the most popular phones in the world. But this is far from the truth in my continent Africa.

Do Africans Use iPhones

Yes Africans Do Use iPhones but the market capitalization of the devices is less than 5% of the Country’s Population and less than 2% of mobile phone Users on the Continent. Here in Kenya the iPhone is of course one of the prestigious devious with the phone used as a status symbol among youth. Those that own the iPhones are considered to Be of High status in the country.

Why iPhones failed

There is no Doubt Apple’s failed of Market capitalization in Africa countries is the only factor that would fail any one to own the phone. The price of the premium phone the iPhone which is $1000 when converted to Kenyan shillings is equivalent to money that can pay for Half a year six months of Rent in the Country’s capital in a very good apartment in the most expensive city in Nairobi. That is how expensive the phone is. This leaves Apple to Very rich customers in Kenya that have access to iPhones.

The massive taxes charges by governments in Africa also increase the price of the phones by over 30%

How Google became the Super power

Google with its mobile operating system Android provided the solution to Apples biggest Africa Problem which is the price for the iPhone. Android phones in Africa are in over 10 brands in the entire Africa with Brands like Reddim, Oppo, Tecno, Infinix, of course Samsung and many other Brands o  the continent provides a variety of affordance and easy to use phones which has boosted Android and Google’s Dominance
