Douglas Lwanga early life and age

He was born on May 1, 1984 to parents Robinah Kidandala and the late Sam Musoke. Douglas Lwanga lost his father at an early age and after the death of his father Douglas grew up in a family of five with three girls and him as the only boy.

Douglas Lwanga is 42 years of age.

Education Background

Douglas attended his primary education from Entebbe and later joined St.Lawrence schools and colleges for his O-Level and A-Level.

Douglas Lwanga developed his passion for entertainment at a young age and during his school days, he became involved in music and dance while studying at St. Lawrence Schools and Colleges in the early 2000s forming a dance group called The Exclusives. The group performed at different events and toured both Uganda and other countries, giving Lwanga his first experience as a stage performer.

After his secondary education he joined Makerere University, where he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and his decision to study the course was influenced partly by his desire for a career that would allow him to dress casually rather than work in a formal office environment.

Early Career at MSG

After Makerere he got first job at MGS Videos, an events and production company where he worked as a cameraman, filming concerts and other entertainment events and this gave him practical experience in video production and introduced him to the entertainment industry.

He later enrolled at Multitech Business School to study graphic design and alongside his work in production, he began earning money by creating visual advertisements for musicians and entertainment events earning him additional sources of income as he continued developing his career.

Record TV Career

Lwanga eventually left MGS Videos and joined Record TV where he initially worked as a video editor and filmed Day Breaker, a programme hosted by Tina Wamala.                       His responsibilities were mainly behind the scenes until a change in management created an unexpected opportunity so after noticing his communication skills during a staff meeting, the station’s new manager encouraged him to try television presenting, changing from production work to becoming a television personality.

Using this chance Douglas created and hosted Katogo, an entertainment programme that became popular among Ugandan viewers.

Although Katogo had gained a following, Lwanga eventually decided to leave the station after disagreements with management over the programme’s direction and working arrangements so his experience at Record TV lasted approximately five years.

Leaving record he didn’t have next plan for his career however Musician Bebe Cool helped him secure an opportunity at NTV by connecting him with the station’s management. Lwanga then pitched his idea for an entertainment programme that gave local and international musicians an opportunity to showcase their work , which became The Beat.

In 2013 he joined NTV Uganda hosting the beat show which gave Lwanga an even bigger platform to interact with Uganda’s leading musicians and entertainment personalities. His popularity continued to grow, and his years at NTV helped establish him as one of the country’s prominent entertainment presenters.

Douglas’s NBS career

In February 2018, Douglas Lwanga left NTV Uganda and joined NBS Television under Next Media Services marking the beginning of a new chapter in his broadcasting career.

At NBS TV, Lwanga initially appeared on KatchUp later joining MC Kats on the entertainment programme After 5, February 20, 2018, with the two presenters hosting alongside DJs Roja and Mercy. The programme was extended by an additional hour to accommodate the new presenting team and give viewers more entertainment content.

Through After 5, Lwanga continued building his reputation as an entertainment presenter, interviewing musicians, discussing developments in the Ugandan entertainment industry and providing a platform for local talent. His work at NBS also expanded beyond television, as he became involved in radio and event activities under Next Media.

Building the Purple Party Brand

Douglas got this  idea in 2012 when he was still working at Record TV. Initially, he wanted to organise a small party where viewers of his Katogo programme could meet and interact with their favourite musicians.                                                             The event was first held at Bulldog Bar in Wandegeya, Kampala, with the purple colour adopted from the theme of his television programme.

As its popularity grew, Purple Party moved beyond indoor venues and expanded into regional tours, attracting musicians, DJs, comedians and entertainment lovers from different parts of Uganda.

Purple Party’s rise into a recognised entertainment brand.

Purple party became more reconised due to his work and NBS After 5 and also provided a platform for both established and upcoming musicians to perform on the same stage. By 2016, the event had expanded to towns including Arua, Gulu, Mbarara and Jinja, becoming popular on Uganda’s entertainment calendar because it attracted large audiences especially the youth.

The brand later expanded beyond Uganda through international tours targeting Ugandans living in the diaspora. Organised under Brand Purple Uganda Limited, Purple Party has grown into a wider celebration of Ugandan music, arts and culture, with ambitions of promoting local talent to international audiences.

In June 2026 Lwanga explained that Purple Party had taken a break from regular events because he had taken time to rethink the event following changes in entertainment habits and the rising costs of organising large concerts.
